For today's blog I would like you to focus on a question you have but also imagine being Alex in Bejing at this moment. In your response include a question as well as a well-thought out attempt to answer your question and a deep reflection of what it would be like to be in Alex's shoes.
You also need to thoughtfully respond to one other student's post. Saying that you simply agree is not a deep response. Explaining that you too had a similar question and also wonder why things are happening as they are, is a much more thoughtful response.

If I was in Alex's shoes I would be terrified since it could get more violent and the tanks would roll in and blow up everything including the building he is standing in.

ReplyDeleteAnswer: I do not think the students know that they are being used because why would they go along with it if they had known.
In Alex's shoes: I would be very scared and confused if I were in Alex's shoes, I would also like to learn more about the "27th" and what the effect would be and if they would have to evacuate.
Why didn't the solders use guns insted of the tear gas because they would have a better chance of wining maybe they thought the students would take there guns and use it for there advantage.

Reflection:If I were in Alex's shoes I would be frustrated because Alex is doing multiple job at one time and also a bit terrified as well because Alex and Lao Xu are just helping jot down notes but Eddied and Ted are fighting to get more information.
Why do they take army's from other places, why don't they just improve their own army?

If I was n Alex's shoes i would probably be freaked out, i would stay in the hotel room till the army had left, but i would still help with the tape recording and charging of the batteries and other things, but i wouldn't be of any help outside of the hotel.

How long will they keep the Goddess of Democracy facing Mao? Or will they keep it anywhere? Will they take it away?

If I was in Alex's shoes I wold do what he did. But i would be thinking what will happen next will the citizens get killed also I would fee scared,worried,and most off all puzzled. Also why are they making such a big deal about this.
A question that I had is: Why is Beijing calling in armies from all over the country? I think that they are bringing in multiple armies because of the Beijing Army being too weak and not being able to clear Tian An Men Square. Because of this, Beijing has called in other armies to do the work for them. I can make this inference from the clues from the book: Beijing Garrison not good with crowd control, Army being held back for not able to clear out Tian An Men Square and many other clues.
ReplyDeleteIf I were Alex in Beijing at this moment I would be very worried about my father wandering the streets of Beijing looking for armed soldiers that would kill him on the spot. I would also have many questions such as: Who is the man on Channel 5? Or why the soldiers in the streets would keep throwing tear gas if they knew it was not working? Or if the people and students of Beijing would keep away from the square and stop protesting once the 27th army arrived in Beijing.

Attempt at answer: I think since your are not allowed to film because the premier of the Communist party doesn't want the world to know that Beijing is in Martial Law because of eighteen and nineteen year-old kids and China would want to display their power of the world.
Reflection in Alex's footsteps: I would be very scared right now because the whole city is in Martial Law and if they find the students in Tian An Men Square there would be consequences. You would think that I would be fine but I still dress up like a young Chinese person and hang out in Tian An Men Square with the students. I'm afraid I might get caught and get punished. If they find out I'm Canadian and I have camcorders with me, they will think that I'm trying to illegally tape footage for CBC I could get in even more trouble.

Reflection:
If I were in Alex's shoes I would be terrified! My dad and his partner going out into a "peaceful" protest that I bet will soon turn into a riot because students have lost sight of the bigger picture. Now it's about winning against the troops and making them look silly, democracy is soon to be forgotten because of the martial law, and tanks. It is illegal to be filming or documenting any of this, but Eddie seems pretty set on getting his story.

ReplyDeleteAnswer: I think that the citizens that are protesting in Tian An Men Square may get injured and maybe even killed. I think this because they maybe thinking that these army's are trying to get them out, but their also fighting against each other.
If I was in Alex's shoes: If I was in Alex's shoes and in Beijing, seeing what is happen with my very own eyes, it was be a fun experiance but also a scary one. It would be fun because I know Alex is into history and has a great knowledge of it, but it would be scary because your just another citizen, you could be risking your life.

ReplyDeleteAnswer: I think the crowds will lose control because of what is going on with the government and army, and who is going to be ready to take over the country since Deng Xio-ping is know being deathbed.
Alex's shoes: I would be scared right know if I was Alex. That reason is because of all the things happening in Tian An Men square and the army,and government trying to get the students out. Also if I were Alex I would want to learn more about the 27th, it could possibly have a more understanding about what is happening right now with the government
Is there going to be a war between the two leaders? Will lots of people die? Will Ted , Eddie, or Alex die? I think that there will be a war killing lots of people. There would be a war because one of leaders wants to settle the problem peacefully but the other leader is bringing in some of the best troops to clear out the square.
